Vinsanto
The mystery behind its name has people baffled for years: Some believe that it derives from the Italian phrase “vino santo”, meaning “holy wine”, whereas others suggest that it comes from the combination of the Italian word for wine “vino” with “Santo-”, an abbreviation of the word Santorini, thus translating into “wine of Santorini”. Experts still have not concluded in the true origin of its name, but there is an interesting trivia concerning the first theory: in Russia, the biggest market of Vinsanto, it is used in the sacrament of the Holy Communion — “holy wine” indeed!
Vinsanto 1959, is the flagship wine of the Koutsogiannopoulos winery. It is a family heirloom of the highest quality — 100% produced from the 1959 vintage and barrel-aged. In its deep maturity, the viscous Vinsanto 1959 displays deep and velvety brown highlights. Its luring aroma is a mystifying blend of current, honey, prune, roasted caramel, quince-candy and dried fig. It's a wine that boasts a unique aromatic and savory complexity with excellent structure and tantalizingly sweet aftertaste.
